My work is mostly of abstract style conveying form and shape to evoke a feeling rather than an obvious representation.
There are two approaches to my sculpturing practice.
The first is to imagine a form or shape in my mind and sketch the idea which may include a maquette. A decision to proceed is followed by choosing the suitable material and production begins. Immersed 'in the zone' as the art takes shape is a wonderful feeling and realizing a great outcome is very satisfying.
The second approach is finding, or be gifted a rough shape or blank and wondering 'what could be?' This is very exciting, to shape in and around knots, splits, cracks and cranky grain as one allows the material to evolve. Sometimes including these characteristics respecting the mantra 'truth to the material'.
Discovering the radiance within the raw material is a delight and finishing to highlight and enhance its absolute beauty is always so very rewarding.
